Doha Tazi Hemida is an eight year PhD candidate in the department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies and the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University. She works on medieval Islamic political thought and theology, with a focus on Ashʿarism. Her dissertation examines the concept of God’s sovereignty (understood as absolute ownership) in the thought of premodern Muslim jurist-theologians (Bāqillānī, Ibn Taymiyya).
