Bridging Academia and Activism through Gender Studies

September 25, 2018

The Sabancı Center was delighted to host a conversation with Jean Howard, George Delacorte Professor in the Humanities (Columbia) and Ayşe Gül Altınay, Director of the Sabancı University Gender and Women’s Studies Center of Excellence. "Bridging Academia and Activism through Gender Studies" was meant to be a critical reflection of the possibilities and challenges of doing feminism and gender studies in Turkey today, during a period of major transformations – especially in relation to conventions on gender and sexuality.

The event was co-sponsored by Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul; The Institute for Research on Women, Gender, and Sexuality; and Women Creating Change at The Center for the Study of Social Difference. It was held at Columbia University on 25 September, 2018.
