X-Raying Turkey: Current Realities and New Aspirations

A panel discussion entitled X-Raying Turkey: Current Realities and New Aspirations, was organized on Morningside campus in collaboration with the Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Columbia Global Centers.

Featured panelists included Ayşe Kadıoğlu (Sabancı University and Visiting Scholar, Sakıp Sabancı Center), Soli Özel (Kadir Has University), and Can Selçuki (Istanbul Economics Research); the panel was moderated by Istanbul Center Director, İpek Cem Taha.

This panel explored Turkey at yet another pivotal point in its history – given the recent political and economic crises as well as regional pressures – and aimed to uncover streams of challenges and opportunities for the country in 2020 and beyond. They discussed the current realities of Turkey, in terms of its state on democracy, economy and international relations, and shared the most recent public opinion statistics on the key issues impacting Turkey and the region.
